PacifiCare Dental and Vision Administrators (PDVA) is one of the leading dental and vision carriers in the West, providing dental and vision services to more than 800,000 members in eight states - California, Arizona, Nevada, Washington, Oregon, Colorado, Texas and Oklahoma.

The company started in California in 1972 as one of the nation's first managed dental care plans. It quickly became a leading benefits provider of a new kind of dental coverage: instead of the traditional fee-for-service method of payment, these plans paid dentists on a per member, per month (pmpm) basis. They promised lower costs to individuals and employers, along with better service and easier administration.

The next two decades brought steady growth, and vision plans were added in 1989. The combination of dental and vision product offerings opened new markets and allowed customers the opportunity to purchase key ancillary benefits from a single carrier. The company (formerly called California Dental Health Plan) was acquired by PacifiCare Health Systems, Inc., in 1993. The company name was changed to PacifiCare Dental and Vision Administrators in 1996. Committed to service excellence, PDVA supports all aspects of dental and vision program administration, including superior customer service, prompt and accurate claims payment, flexible product development, expert pricing and underwriting.
